Every company does employee reviews. There are millions of different ways to conduct these reviews but the most important thing to remember is this process is about improvement. It’s about growing and improving your business. So when you are meeting with an employee to discuss their quarterly or annual performance, you want to focus on the progress they have made as an employee. Get in their head. Try to find out how they view their progression within your business. Ask them what they want to improve on, what do they think they need to grow and where do they want to be in a few years. So it’s really a meeting about employee growth. There are certain checklists that we use and items we go over that are specific to that particular employee. So the employee realizes this isn’t a grade, this isn’t a report card on me. This is really someone who is trying to help me grow and develop within this company.
